How the spark started...

Picture
Ever since my childhood, I loved to paint and color. I took my first official oil painting class in the summer of 2006 at the University of Montevallo. Ever since that class, I was hooked. My mother has always taught me to appreciate nature; from little ladybugs to grand, mountainous clouds. My first series of paintings you'll see I called Fractured Nature. These are just a few of numerous species that are either threatened or are already on the endangered species list. I painted them in close proximity for the viewers to feel the majesty and beauty each of these vanishing species uniquely holds.

I graduated from the University of Montevallo with my bachelors of fine arts in graphic design and painting in May 2009. I featured my first Fractured Nature series in my senior show. Fracture Nature are a series of paintings of endangered or threatened species. I did my internship at UM's public relations where I was given the privilege to put some of my skills to the test. During my time at the Disney College Program (internship) at Walt Disney World, I had the privilege of cross-training as a ornament personalization artist. Today, I continue to strengthen my painting skills and take on commission work as well as paint aprons for my local Home Depot store.  My name is Shawna Covington and I hope you enjoy my website.
